Submission Portal Now Open!

October is slowly making it’s mark as one of our favorite months. It ushers in all those fall season favorites, like beautiful foliage, excuses to eat way too much candy corn, cooler weather, pumpkin flavored everything…and the Ocean 180 Video Challenge.

On October 1, the 2015 Ocean 180 Video Challenge officially opened its submission portal. Ocean scientists of all career stages- including undergraduate and graduate students- are invited to submit their 3 minute video abstract to compete for the $9,000 in prizes being offered this year. Submissions will be accepted until December 1, 2014 (11:59pm PST).

Want to take on the 2015 Challenge?

Great! Before you get started, please review the Challenge Guidelines and FAQs. Make sure your team and publication are both eligible under these guidelines before you submit. As a reminder, all videos must be related to a scientific paper that the submitting scientist has published in a peer-reviewed journal within the past five years.

If you’re looking for a little guidance or inspiration to create your video abstract, you can take a look at the 2014 Finalists and see what the Student Judging Team had to say about the entries.

Once you are ready to submit, you will need to complete our online submission form. On the form, you will be asked to provide a link to your video abstract using a file-sharing program, such as Dropbox.

While the submission deadline is about 8 weeks away, we strongly suggest you start working on your video abstract early. With all of the fun that October brings, it also marks the start of a very busy time for faculty, students, and parents alike. So as you start planning Halloween costumes and mid-term exams, don’t forget about creating your winning entry!

We hope to see your video abstract submitted to the 2015 Ocean 180 Video Challenge and look forward to sharing the finalists with this year’s Student Judging Team!
